Realpolitik and Geopolitics Ended Anti-Turkey Stance
By Ahmet Özay
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited Turkey this week. The visit was announced under the title 'Turkey's importance in NATO, developing EU-Turkey relations, conducting high-level dialogues on migration and security'.
Did Merz achieve these goals in Ankara? Realpolitik or geopolitical realism has ended the dogmatic anti-Turkey process that dominated European capitals over the past decade.
Cooperation in Syria and Defense
We can say that Turkey, Qatar and Germany are in a reconstruction process that will bring the 'Hejaz Railway Line', built during the time of Sultan Abdulhamid II, back into service.
In the German press, there are reports that the historic line known as the 'Baghdad Railway' will be revived. Although it is emphasized that Merz and Erdogan have different styles regarding Israel, it is important that Merz said in Ankara 'We will not approve of every decision of Israel'.
Under Chancellor Friedrich Merz, there are many positive steps pointing to a new era. These steps stand before us as harbingers of a new Europe with Turkey in the east.

In other words, instead of building a new “Berlin Wall,” the United States is moving toward constructing an “Atlantic Wall” designed to protect itself.
